The Hubris of Tony Abbott

The ancient Greeks called it hubris (βρις) and back then it was considered one of the most abhorrent offences one could commit. It referred to actions that shamed and humiliated the victim for the pleasure or gratification of the abuser. In its modern use, hubris denotes overconfident pride and arrogance, often associated with a lack of humility. Whatever you call it - arrogance, presumption, hubris, pride - Tony Abbott is its very personification.
